Fairfield In Training founders Zack and Nikki DeLeon and Rob and Jill Allen would like to announce a change in FIT leadership for 2014 and beyond. Due to the ever-increasing demands of family and careers, we (the DeLeons and Allens) have decided to pass control and leadership of FIT on to a group of capable and enthusiastic members who are eager to improve and grow the program into the future. Your new leaders will be Greg Miller, David Tebben, and Jennifer McMahon.
Greg Miller has been a member of FIT since the first training session in January 2010. Since that time, Greg has consistently improved his performance and gained an understanding of the training process. He has assisted FIT in a variety of supportive roles over the past couple of years, including the organization and coaching of mid-week technical runs. David Tebben has been one of the most competitive FIT members since joining in 2011, and together with Greg has been active in leading and organizing various workouts. Jennifer McMahon is an original member of FIT and most recently coached and led another local running group, where she achieved success and a loyal following. We are very excited to have Jennifer return to FIT with unique perspective and experience.
While we are regretful that we are no longer able to commit to organizing and coaching such a fantastic group of runners and friends, we are excited to usher FIT into the hands of motivated leaders that the group needs and deserves. Most of all, we will enjoy seeing FIT return to being the large, strong, and well organized club it has been in the past.
Please watch for an upcoming event in December 2013, where we will offer more insight into these important changes for 2014, as well as registration for the next training session to begin in January. And finally, please lend your support to our new leaders as they work to make improvements to Fairfield In Training for years to come.
Zack, Nikki, Rob, and Jill
Hey FIT members unfortunately the tables at Celebration Park were sold out so we need to come up with an alternative meeting spot before and after the run……..At the end of the park (closer to Spring St) there is a small road that runs into the park from Neal Ave. So I say we meet on the SW corner area of Celebration Park. This would be at the end of the rows of tables. I plan to arrive very early to allow for time to park, walk, potty, etc. you can reach me on my cell 614-208-8059. Looking forward to seeing everyone….Suzan Jones
The Columbus Marathon is expecting a record crowd this year…both races SOLD OUT early! Unfortunately, we were unable to secure a tent at the Celebration Village because they sold out early as well. So, we will need to coordinate an alternate meeting place for FIT runners and family/friends. Also, FIT is in need of a few volunteers (non-running members, friends, family, etc) who can support the group by helping to carry bags, jackets, etc back to the finish line from the start once the race has started. Please text Zack at 740-503-8912 or Suzan at 614-208-8059 if you are willing to help! Thanks…and stay healthy for a few more days!
FIT will meet this Saturday, October 12th, for the final time before the Columbus Marathon. We will meet at OU-L at 7:00 AM for a short run on the bike path to keep it flat and safe as we wind down for the race. Half Marathoners and Full Marathoners will run 5 and 8 miles respectively. Please bring any questions you may have leading into race day. Almost there!
Due to the fair, FIT will not meet at the fairgrounds this evening. However, what a great night for Chestnut Ridge Metro Park! A group will meet this evening at 6:30 for some hills. Enjoy!
The group run for tomorrow will be at Clear Creek Metro Park at 7:00 AM! The park is located 7 miles south of Lancaster off US 33. Follow signs to Clear Creek and turn right at the gas station/Subway. We will meet at the Creekside Meadows parking area, which is about 2 miles from 33. This run will be on roads only…no trails! It should be a great time to enjoy cool temps and colorful trees.
Sorry for the extremely late notice! It occurred to me late tonight that there may be confusion over the start time tomorrow. So, let’s start at 7:00, but I will be there at 6:30 in case anyone wants to start earlier. Peak week!
This week’s group run will begin earlier due to the 50th Bob Reall Invitational! We will begin at 6:30 AM at OU-L and run the Lancaster Bike Path. We expect a small group tomorrow as several members will be at the Indian Run at Hocking Hills State Park and other members will be volunteering at the invitational. Good luck to our runners at the Indian Run! Don’t worry about the mud…embrace it!
FIT will meet at the Kohl’s parking lot for a group long run on Saturday, September 14th at 7:00 AM. Sorry for the short notice on the change of location, but I just realized that the bike path is closed in the Mary Burnham Park area! This is our final recovery week before the taper…we are almost there! The new sections of the bike path are now paved, and the weather should be ideal tomorrow morning. Those of you going to the David Mayfield Parade show at OU-L tonight: have fun but NO EXCUSES! Also, anyone interested in a fantastic cause should consider participating in the Tammy Nusser Foundation 5K in Bremen tomorrow morning at 10 AM. This foundation helps homebound cancer patients with routine services they can no longer perform on their own and honors Tammy Nusser, a Chamber of Commerce employee who lost her battle with cancer in 2012.
We will not be meeting for a group speed/threshold run due to the 90 plus degree temps this evening. Stay hydrated and get after it the rest of the week.
